2024 Official Visitors Guide |
Hello and welcome to our wonderful town! We hope you have enjoyed your travels. While you are here, be sure to take some
time to explore Blue Earth which is a charming community nestled in the Blue Earth River Valley. It gets its name from the Blue
Earth River that circles around and through the town. The river was given the Native American name “Mahkota,” meaning blue
earth, for the blue/gray clay found in the banks of the Blue Earth River. We are known for the world’s largest 60’ Green Giant
Statue, and our town is the birthplace of the Chocolate Dream ice cream bar, the predecessor of the Eskimo Pie. Blue Earth offers
a wide variety of activities. Enjoy the beauty of nature in our rural area year round! In summer you can bike, hike, birdwatch, or
have a picnic at our many well-maintained parks and trails. Golf at our scenic golf course, spend the day swimming at our municipal
swimming pool and water park, or canoe or kayak on the Blue Earth River. If you are traveling in an RV, spend the night at our
newly renovated city campground. It is easy to find and is located in the Faribault County Fairgrounds. Winter activities include
cross country skiing, snowshoeing, or snowmobiling on well-marked and groomed trails. Blue Earth is lucky to have several unique
specialty shops. Many of our stores feature items made by local artisans and carry unique or unusual one of a kind gifts. Enjoy a
cup of coffee, cappuccino, or an ice cream cone while having a look around. Hungry for something more substantial? Our many
local restaurants feature authentic local fare and delicious dishes. You can choose from an old fashioned drive-in, home-cooked
style meals, craft brewed beer, pizza, ethnic food, or fast food restaurants. We even have a few food trucks! There is something to
satisfy every foodie! Standing proud and tall in Giant Park is the statue of the Jolly Green Giant. Since 1979 he has looked out
over the park and greeted visitors from all over the world. Located at 1134 Giant Drive, the Giant is only ½ mile south of Interstate
90 on Highway 169. Stop in to take a picture; stay to have a picnic. Don’t forget to look for the 24 uniquely painted little Sprouts
all around town. Take a photo with each one and tag it #sproutselfie to see it on Instagram. Check out our Freenotes Harmony
Park musical instruments. Designed with acoustic precision and perfect tone, Freenotes Harmony Park instruments are built to
maintain pure and soothing tones through years of rigorous play and exposure to the elements of nature. This musical instrument
collection was donated by Paul Hedberg and family for the enjoyment of all. Pump up your bike tires and go for a ride on one of
the beautiful trails. A newly installed commercial-grade ultimate bike repair station is ready for you to use. Included are eight
tools, an integrated stainless steel air pump, and bike mounting pegs. After your last picture is taken, make your way over to the
Giant Welcome Center which is located directly across the street from the Giant. Inside you will find tourist information, tourism
guides, brochures, maps, and clean restrooms. Browse our souvenir shop where you can buy Green Giant and Sprout items such
as T-shirts, postcards, pins, keychains, stickers, charms, and magnets. You won’t find them anywhere else! Keep them for yourself
or to give as gifts. Tour the Giant Memorabilia Museum and see the largest collection of Green Giant Memorabilia in the world.
Watch a nostalgic video about the canning process. Walk through a mockup of the canning factory which includes old canning
equipment, and view the scale model of the past canning factory. Seneca continues to operate the factory in Blue Earth, canning
and labeling vegetables grown locally for the Green Giant Company which is now owned by the company B&G Foods. Enjoy your
time in Blue Earth! Need more information? Call the Chamber office at 507-526-2916 or email director@blueearthchamber.com.
