FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT/CHRISTMAS
Mary and Joseph journeyed
from the town of Nazareth
to the city of Bethlehem to
enroll because Joseph was
of the house of David and
Mary was with child.
While they were there, she
gave birth to her rst born Son. She
wrapped Him in swaddling clothes
and laid Him in a manger. . .

It’s REALLY Holiday Recycling!
*
Gone are the days when regifting was a total faux pas!
Recycling gifts has become more socially acceptable ...
as long as it’s done with care.
Our St. Monica Ministry of Compassion for the Family invites you to extend your holiday
spirit by donang those gis that may not have necessarily been on your Christmas wish list. The
Crisis Center for South Suburbia will benet from your generosity through their not-for-prot
Neat Repeats Resale Store. 100% of the proceeds fund services for survivors of domesc violence.
Thank heavens for regiing! Proceeds from your donaon will help The Crisis Center of South Suburbia
provide the support someone was hoping and praying for.

CHILDRENS LIVE NATIVITY
The true meaning of Christmas was celebrated last week, on Gaudete (Joy) Sunday, as our parish children in
our Religious Education and CJB School carried forward gifts of joy during our 9:30 am and 11:30 am Masses.
Santa invited the Nativity groups to stop in OMara Hall so he could share a picture with them.
SERVING JESUS AT THE DAYBREAK SHELTER SOUP KITCHEN IN JOLIET
The third Sunday of each month is the St. Elizabeth Seton Social Action Ministrys honor to cook and serve the
homeless at the Catholic Charities Daybreak Shelter in Joliet and it was so appropriate that it was Gaudete (Joy) Sun-
day because we always serve our guests with great joy. This year we are celebrating our 35th year of serving our
brothers and sister of this community.
When we arrive, we only have a 2/1/2 hour window of time to prepare our meal to serve at 11:30 am, so we
prepare a lot of the food ahead of time. This year, Papa Joes (Orland Park) came to our rescue to cook five large tur-
keys with turkey gravy and personally delivered them to us. We always share an appetizer to help the hungry who re-
side there and this month we had deviled eggs and cheese and crackers. This was a special day as it was our Christ-
mas dinner to them. So, in addition to the turkeys, we also served seasoned pork roast. Pops Beef (Tinley Park loca-
tion) donated their delicious bread that we turned into hot garlic bread (which is always a favorite). We prepared stuff-
ing to go with the gravy, served 50 lbs. of freshly mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, and fresh
salad with all the trimmings. For a sweet dessert we had homemade layered jello cups, pies, cakes, cupcakes and
Andrew High School donated tons of homemade cookies too!
Our guests received many gifts. Stagg High School donated new socks and treat snack bags were handed out
to guests as they left the shelter. We also handed out warm blankets and sweaters. Our next Soup Kitchen is January
19, 2025. To volunteer or have questions, please contact Bernadette Kemp at 708-532-5635.
FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT/CHRISTMAS
Your purchase and support made it possible.
Thank you to all who participated in the
Ten Thousand Villages Fair Trade Pop Up Market
sponsored by the St. Elizabeth Seton
Social Action Ministry.$12,300
was raised to support Fair Trade.
The inspiration for the name—Ten Thousand Villages—came from a Mahatma
Gandhi quote: "… India is not to be found in its few cities but in the 700,000
villageswe have hardly ever paused to inquire if these folks get sufficient
to eat and clothe themselves with." Ten Thousand Villages believes that
each village in the world represents a unique, distinctive peopleoffering
extraordinary products born of their
rich cultures and traditions.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT/CHRISTMAS
Celebrating over 10 years of
supporting Fair Trade through
Ten Thousand Villages
Thank you to all who supported the Ten Thou-
sand Villages Fair Trade Artisan World Market
Pop-Up Store, hosted by our St. Elizabeth Se-
ton Social Action Ministry. On November 23/24,
the community of St. Elizabeth Seton Church
raised $12,300.00, for fair trade artisans around
the globe. Ten Thousand Villages is a nonprofit
fair trade organization that markets handcrafted
products made by artisans from more than 120
artisan groups in more than 35 countries.
As one of the worlds largest and oldest fair
trade organizations, Ten Thousand Villages
cultivates long-term buying relationships in
which artisans receive a fair price for their work
and consumers have access to gifts, accesso-
ries, and home décor from around the world.
Ten Thousand Villages is a founding member of
the World Fair Trade Organization and a certi-
fied member of the Fair Trade Federation. Your
purchases of fair trade products and ethically
sourced handcrafted goods and gifts, provide
marginalized people a dignified opportunity to
earn a fair wage. Every purchase creates new
possibilities for those in need, alleviating pov-
erty through fair trade and a fair wage.
The St. Elizabeth Seton Social Action Minis-
try thanks the many adult/teen volunteers who
shared their time and talent and to all for your
generosity and for mindfully making purchases
that give value to the lives of others.

came to our OMara Hall to visit with our St. Elizabeth Seton children and brought along doughnut holes to
share with all of our families. Fr. Kevin McCray (pictured second row, right) and Fr. Bill Corcoran (second row,
left), made certain that Santa knew that all of our parish children have been very, very good this year!

St. Monica Ministry of Compassion to the Family
Domestic Violence Outreach (DVO) at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish
A Solemn Mass for Domestic Violence was hosted on Sunday, Oct. 20, by our St. Monica Ministry
to pray for the healing of survivors and to pray for an end to domestic violence.
The mission of our St. Monica Ministry is:
To increase awareness of and education about
domestic violence at our parish and in the community
To promote the delivery of services and assistance
to families of domestic violence
To support the prevention of domestic violence
This past Fall, our ministry worked with our
Social Action Ministry to host a Baby Needs
Donation Drive to benefit the Crisis Center of
South Suburbia.
During October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we
sponsored a Silent Witness Display in our Narthex after all
Masses. A silent witness is a life-sized silhouette that tells
the true story of an adult or child who was killed in an act of
domestic violence. Each silently bears witness to a serious
and ongoing problem.
In February, we are working with our GodSEND Youth
Ministry to hold a Safe Start event for teens to learn about
healthy relationships, conflict resolution, and strategies to
avoid abusive situations.
If you are interested in joining our ministry, please reach
out to the parish office at 708-403-0101, and ask to be
contacted by someone in our ministry.

Illinois Residents Deserve Excellent Pain
Management, Not Assisted Suicide
Illinois has excellent, modern palliative care programs to
alleviate suffering—no ones pain should be unmanagea-
ble in our state. Hospice care is paid for by Medicare, Med-
icaid, and private insurance. We deserve the best in pain
management and quality care, not suicide drugs. Tell
your legislators: VOTE NO on SB3499-Assisted Suicide.

SVDP Christmas Collection
For your convenience, SVDP boxes are located at all the entrances of
our church. We depend solely on the contributions placed in the donation
boxes. SVDP members would like to thank all who contributed to the
Thanksgiving collection—and to those who use the SVDP boxes at each
entrance. All monies donated go directly to those in need. We service
clients within our parish boundaries with emergency assistance for
utilities, rent, security deposits, food, clothing, medical, dental, eye care
and occasionally gasoline to get to a job site. As calls come throughout
the year we look to your generosity and sense of sharing and justice to
assist these people. It is your goodness that makes our work possible.
May God continue to bless you!
At Christmastime, Respond Now has been providing

THIS WEEKS FOCUS:
FAMILY—
THE SCHOOL OF FAITH
We think of church, or perhaps religious education
classes, or a parish school as the places we learn about
faith. But none of these is more central to learning to
live our faith than the household and
family.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT/CHRISTMAS
GodSEND YOUTH MINISTRY HIGHLIGHT EVENT
FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN SERVICE TRIP
On Nov. 2, St. Francis of Assisi Youth Ministry and our
GodSEND Youth Ministry ventured to Libertyville, IL,
to assemble 3 lb. grain and oats meal bags. These meal
bags are shipped to poverty-stricken areas of the
world allowing children to ration these bags of food
for two-three daysworth of meals. This Corporal Work
of Mercy allowed our youth to reflect and thank God
for the nourishment we receive. In addition to this
community service, the two youth groups and the par-
ish chaperones broke bread together, socialized, and
attended the St. Stephen Deacon & Martyr 5:00 pm
Mass. Through the three pillars of Spiritual, Serving,
and Socially, both parishes collaborated to live out the
UNITY of our Catholic Faith CommUNITY.
FRIENDSGIVING
GodSEND Youth Ministry celebrated a festive Friendsgiv-
ing to continue building relationships with one another
through meal fellowship and social activities. The meal
fellowship was accentuated by the generously scrumptious
sides the youth kindly provided for the main meal, turkey
and ham. he social activities were team Thanksgiving trivia,
an air hockey tournament, and mini-shuffleboard tourna-
ment. Winners received gift cards for their efforts. We are
thankful for our youth and their families who continue to
support us.
What led you to God's calling?
ASK A PRIEST OR NUN
Fr. Dan (St. Elizabeth Seton Church), Fr. Kevin (St. Elizabeth Seton Church), Fr. Matt (St. Stephen Deacon &
Martyr Church), and Fr. Paul (St. George Church), and Sr. Marie (Franciscan Sister of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Order) helped provide insight of what led them to answer Gods call to their vocation during our Ask a Priest
or a Nun,Nov. 19, weekly Tuesday Youth Gathering. We are blessed by God for their Catholic Church and
catechesis leadership.
BUCKETS OF HOPE FOR
HURRICANE KATRINA
Our youth collected cases of
water, diapers, pull-ups, baby
wipes, totaling $2,500 worth
of items. Both the drivers and
items packed into their cars
were blessed before they left
the parishes. A testament to
our youth on caring for
others.

PLEASE CONSIDER A GIFT TO THE
CHURCH THAT PAYS YOU BACK
The spirit of giving is most evident during the Advent sea-
son. A Charitable Gift Annuity is a fantastic way to make a
gift to the Church and receive fixed payments for life—
benefitting you today and our parish in the future. You can
schedule payments according to your financial needs, and
enjoy immediate and future tax benefits, including a federal
income tax deduction for a portion of your gift, if you item-
ize. Also, a portion of each annuity payment will be tax-free
(through life expectancy). The funds remaining after your
lifetime will support our parish or school – as designated
by you. For information, contact Donna Stolinski, Business
Manager, dstolinski@steseton.com or 708-403-0101 x106
or visit giving.archchicago.org/cga.

ASSISTED SUICIDE INCETIVIZES DENYING TREATMENT
Insurance companies have turned down coverage for can-
cer treatments but offered to pay for suicide drugs instead.
Furthermore, the disabled community already faces de-
moralization and oppression in seeking adequate medical
care. Assisted suicide encourages this kind of prejudice.
Access Living, Progress Center for Independent Living and
the National Council on Disability oppose assisted suicide.
People need quality medical care and treatment, not as-
sisted suicide. Tell you state legislators to Vote NO on
SB3499-assisted suicide. Visit www.ilcatholic.org for addi-
tional information and resources.
