Key findings
Spring/summer 2024 Minnesota travel indicators show continued year-over-year (YoY) growth.
•Accommodations – State and Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area key lodging performance
metrics improved YoY. Minneapolis hotel metrics were especially strong during the three
summer months with averages of 73% occupancy, $146 RevPar and $105 ADR.
•Leisure & Hospitality (L&H) employment – Between April and August 2024, Minnesota’s L&H
average monthly industry employment increased by 2.2% YoY to 284,918.
•MSP Airport – Spring/summer passenger volume was 8.5% higher YoY with a monthly
average of 3.3 million passengers.
•Minnesota comparison – For 2024 year-to-date, Minnesota’s L&H jobs and air passengers
are up by a larger percentage than total U.S. jobs and passengers. However, MN lodging
demand is down slightly relative to last year and the U.S., due to unusual (warm) winter
weather conditions.
•International arrivals – According to final Tourism Economics estimates, in 2023 Minnesota
had an estimated 567,400 international arrivals. This is a 35% increase over 2022. In 2026,
International visitation to Minnesota is expected to increase to over 750,000 visitors.
