The parish has a number of personal listening system
receivers with an over-the-ear speaker for
use at the Mass. Please inform a Music
Minister (Director or Cantor) if you would
like to use one of the receivers, and it will be
provided. Kindly return the receiver to the
Music Director after Mass so that it can be sanitized for
others to use.
For Those with a Hearing
Impediment
Today the Church celebrates the
Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. It
is rare that this feast occurs on a Sunday,
and so it becomes an occasion to
experience more of the liturgical
richness of Church’s calendar.
Candlemas is a traditional name for this
feast because of the use of candles, which are blessed on
this day. Candles signify that Jesus is the light who enters
the darkness of the temple. The illuminating grace is that
the long-awaited Messiah is revealed to the nations. The
savior born for us is dedicated to God for his redemptive
mission.
At our baptism, each of us was given a candle lighted
from the Paschal Candle. (Do you have your baptismal
candle among your mementos?) The baptismal candle is
the symbol that Christ is the light who enters the darkness
of our soul to fill it with his Presence. Each of us becomes
a child of the light. Each of us becomes a temple into
which Christ enters. Throughout our lives, we are
encouraged to keep this light (the light of faith) burning
brightly. We do so through our daily prayer, study of
Sacred Scripture, participation in the sacraments, and
fulfilling the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. We
are invited to tread the path of virtue and holiness to
reach that light which never fails.
During the past week, I have received some questions
regarding the parish response to the mandate that federal
workers return to the office. The first response is that our
church remains open every day for private prayer. All are
welcome to experience the quiet and beauty of the
church. As the Lord says, “Be still and know that I am
God.” The midday times for Confessions, Rosary, and
Mass will continue as scheduled. There is plenty of room
for all who want to attend. The availability of a morning
Mass continues in the Priory Chapel with the Dominican
community. The faithful are welcome to attend. If it
happens that the morning Mass consistently has more
attendees than can be accommodated, then we can
consider a morning Mass in the church. In short, we will
wait and see what happens in real time and respond
accordingly.
The Summa Study Group begins on Monday this week. It
is a wonderful new initiative to introduce the thought and
writings of St. Thomas Aquinas. Please see the details and
registration information elsewhere in this bulletin.
The 3 home cenacle groups continue to meet and are
always open to new participants. Two groups meet in
person and one group meets online. Please contact the
parish office for information.
Let us love one another and pray for each other,
