The parish has a number of personal listening system
receivers with an over-the-ear speaker for
use at the Mass. Please inform a Music
Minister (Director or Cantor) if you would
like to use one of the receivers, and it will be
provided. Kindly return the receiver to the
Music Director after Mass so that it can be sanitized for
others to use.
For Those with a Hearing
Impediment
Today the Church celebrates the
Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. It
is rare that this feast occurs on a Sunday,
and so it becomes an occasion to
experience more of the liturgical
richness of Church’s calendar.
Candlemas is a traditional name for this
feast because of the use of candles, which are blessed on
this day. Candles signify that Jesus is the light who enters
the darkness of the temple. The illuminating grace is that
the long-awaited Messiah is revealed to the nations. The
savior born for us is dedicated to God for his redemptive
mission.
At our baptism, each of us was given a candle lighted
from the Paschal Candle. (Do you have your baptismal
candle among your mementos?) The baptismal candle is
the symbol that Christ is the light who enters the darkness
of our soul to fill it with his Presence. Each of us becomes
a child of the light. Each of us becomes a temple into
which Christ enters. Throughout our lives, we are
encouraged to keep this light (the light of faith) burning
brightly. We do so through our daily prayer, study of
Sacred Scripture, participation in the sacraments, and
fulfilling the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. We
are invited to tread the path of virtue and holiness to
reach that light which never fails.
During the past week, I have received some questions
regarding the parish response to the mandate that federal
workers return to the office. The first response is that our
church remains open every day for private prayer. All are
welcome to experience the quiet and beauty of the
church. As the Lord says, “Be still and know that I am
God.” The midday times for Confessions, Rosary, and
Mass will continue as scheduled. There is plenty of room
for all who want to attend. The availability of a morning
Mass continues in the Priory Chapel with the Dominican
community. The faithful are welcome to attend. If it
happens that the morning Mass consistently has more
attendees than can be accommodated, then we can
consider a morning Mass in the church. In short, we will
wait and see what happens in real time and respond
accordingly.
The Summa Study Group begins on Monday this week. It
is a wonderful new initiative to introduce the thought and
writings of St. Thomas Aquinas. Please see the details and
registration information elsewhere in this bulletin.
The 3 home cenacle groups continue to meet and are
always open to new participants. Two groups meet in
person and one group meets online. Please contact the
parish office for information.
Let us love one another and pray for each other,

Poor Box
Donations to the parish Poor Box can be
made by using the envelope in your packet,
Faith Direct, dropping it off at the Parish
Office, Venmo or by giving it to one of the
priests. Your generosity enables the parish
to assist the poor with one-meal gift cards,
rent assistance, utility assistance, and other important,
local social concerns and organizations.
As a parish, we strive to be stewards of our resources.
Many families have moved away from envelopes and are
now using Faith Direct to fulfill their generous stewardship
commitments to our parish and the wider church through
electronic donations. We have also found that many are
not using their envelopes that we mail out. Help us to
reduce our envelope and postage expense and at the same
time support us in a secure and convenient way by
enrolling with Faith Direct.
It’s easy to get started. Here are the ways to sign up:
 Visit Faith.Direct/DC117

The Jubilee Prayer
for the Holy Year
2025
Father in heaven,
May the faith you have given us in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother,
and the flame of charity enkindled in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed hope for the coming of your Kingdom.
May your grace transform us
into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel.
May those seeds transform from within both humanity
and the whole cosmos
in the sure expectation of a new heaven and a new earth,
when, with the powers of Evil vanquished,
your glory will shine eternally.
May the grace of the Jubilee reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope,
a yearning for the treasures of heaven.
May that same grace spread the joy and peace of our Redeemer
throughout the earth.
To you our God, eternally blessed, be glory and praise for ever.
Amen.
The Church has provided Mass prayers specifically
for the Holy Year. These prayers will be used at the 9
a.m. Mass on Saturday, February 1 to encourage
and support our participation in the Jubilee Year.
These special Masses will be on Saturdays at 9 a.m. on
the following days:
April 5, June 7, July 5, August 9, September 6, October 11
and December 6.
The Catholic Church celebrates a yearlong "event of great
spiritual, ecclesial, and social significance in the life of the
Church." The Holy Year, under the theme of "Pilgrims of
Hope," marks the 2,025-year anniversary of the Incarnation of
the Lord. Catholics are encouraged to make pilgrimage during
the year, either to Rome or to a sacred site within their local
diocese/eparchy. The Holy Father has also marked special
celebrations throughout 2025 for various needs and
communities.
More information about the entire Jubilee Holy Year can be
found on the USCCB website at:
https://www.usccb.org/committees/jubilee-2025.
