2 Corinthians 12:7-10
7 But to keep me from being puffed up with pride because of the many wonderful things I saw, I was given
a painful physical ailment, which acts as Satans messenger to beat me and keep me from being proud.
8Three times I prayed to the Lord about this and asked him to take it away. 9But his answer was: My
grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak.I am most happy, then, to be proud of
my weaknesses, in order to feel the protection of Christs power over me. 10I am content with weaknesses,
insults, hardships, persecutions, and difficulties for Christs sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
It's the new year, and Ill bet that you are feeling the pressure from the outside world to do what were
supposedto do on New Years. Make Resolutions! Be something better. Want something more. Ask and
pray for greater things. And those things arent all bad. Its a good thing to strive to be better, to be more, to
grow and become more aware.
We should pray for those thingswork on those thingstry to be better
But always remember the story of Paul abovethat through all things, Gods grace is all you need.
At the end of the Civil War, this prayer was found folded in the pocket of a Confederate Soldier:
I asked God for strength, that I might achieve;
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey.
I asked for health, that I might do greater things;
I was given inrmity, that I might do beer things.
I asked for riches, that I might be happy;
I was given poverty, that I might be wise.
I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men;
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things that I might enjoy life;
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.
I got nothing I asked for but everything I hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am, among men, most richly blessed.
Connue to pray.
Keep striving to be beer and grow and become more aware in your life.
But always remember that Gods grace is yours, always.
And because of that truth, We are, among people, most richly blessed.

December 2023 Communication to the Congregation
December Updates from Peace Lutheran Church Council
Congregational Listening Sessions: Cathy Cowling partnered with our
council members to lead three congregational round table conversations and
will provide her summary soon. In the meantime, council members attended
each listening session and noted these high level themes: enhanced spiritual opportunities for all
ages, increased need for staffing, incorporation of a variety of music, deepening our welcoming
feeling for all members, reflection on our worship services as well as highlighting the many wonder-
ful things Peace Lutheran has to offer.
November Council Retreat: Cathy led our church council during our Saturday retreat. We reflected
on listening session information, analyzed staffing needs based on various research, analyzed the
role of council, began the development of the Senior and Associate Pastors roles and responsibili-
ties, and reviewed a draft organizational chart.
MSP and Call Team: Cathy Cowling will continue to be our consultant as we proceed through the
call process. The next step in the call process for an Associate Pastor is to develop our Peace
Church Ministry Site Profile which will begin in early December. A unified MSP/Call Team has been
approved by council and includes: Pastor Stuart, Kiley Mroczynski Fred Stieg, Kelly Hohman, Joel
Gregozeski, Loren Fugelstad, and Cathy Jarosinski. Once the MSP is written, the Peace Council
reviews and approves the MSP.
The Call Team portion of the process will begin with an orientation from Pastor Asher, Associate to
the Bishop and Director for Transitions. Cathy Cowling will also continue to guide the team with
interview question development, mock interviews, and critical thinking during the interview process.
We are filled with hope and feel the process has been purposeful and thoughtful.
Scholarship Committee: Janelle Bailey, Fred Stieg, and Jeff Rafn are reviewing and revising the
2024 Scholarship. More information will be coming when the process is finalized.
Councils Actions in November: Council voted to approve the staff reports, treasurers reports,
committee reports, the MSP/Call Committee, and August minutes. We also continued our 2024
budget discussion. We discussed the strengthening of our relationship with Peaceful Beginnings,
Senior Pastor Role criteria, and ideas around the primary goals for Peace.
Councils Next Steps: Our Peace Council team increased our meetings from quarterly to every
other month. Additionally, the council voted to utilize the consent agenda format which will allow
more opportunities for futuristic planning during our meetings. Council supports the Associate Pastor
MSP process by identifying primary goals for Peace and general responsibilities for the Associate
Pastor. This work will continue during our December meeting.
Looking for an Opportunity to Help? Each council member leads a committee (Parish Education,
Worship, Buildings & Grounds, Staffing, Ministry Support and Life & Growth). The committees
welcome new members to help support their goals. Please feel free to contact any council member
to inquire about an opportunity to help.
Do you know of someone interested in being a member of
Peace Lutheran Church?
Here is some information you can share with anyone you know who
may be interested in becoming a member:
Annually, there are three options for a 1-
hour New Member meeting. These are
in January, April, and September (the
next one is Monday, Jan 15, 2024 at
6:30pm). New members only need to
attend one meeting, and then we would
like them to come to the following church
service (either Thursday or Sunday) to
introduce them to the congregation and
get their picture for the directory.
There is a packet of information that
Pastor Stuart goes over in the meeting -
it includes a few forms to be filled out. Some people choose to pick these up ahead
of time in the church office, some choose to wait to get them at the meeting - that is
their choice.

Featured Author: Terri Blackstock
Terri Blackstock is a New York Times and USA Today best-seller, with over seven mil-
lion books sold worldwide and over thirty years of success as a novelist. She sold
her first novel at the age of twenty-five and has had a successful career ever since.
In 1994 Terri was writing romance novels under two pseudonyms for publishers such
as HarperCollins, Harlequin, Dell and Silhouette, when a spiritual awakening prompt-
ed her to switch gears. At the time, she was reading more suspense than romance,
and felt drawn to write thrillers about ordinary people in grave danger. Her newly
awakened faith wove its way into the tapestry of her suspense novels, offering hope
instead of despair. Her goal is to entertain with page-turning plots while challenging
her readers. She hopes to remind them that theyre not alone, and that their trials
have a purpose.

Sunday School
Update
Great job to ALL THE CHILDREN on their Christmas Concert sing-
ing. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!
We have many children that have perfect or near-perfect attend-
ance so far in our Sunday School year. Awesome job children and
parents!
A big THANK YOU again to the amazing teachers, helpers and the
substitutes of our Sunday School program. This program would
not be as great as it is without our great bunch of volunteers.
Sunday School resumes on January 7 after the Christmas and
New Year break. Stories children will learn about in January are
related to Jesus and his amazing ability to love, forgive and lead.
January 28 will be a craft and movie day.
Our fun Extreme Bingo Sunday will be held February 25 this year.
However, if youre an after Christmas clearance shopper and find
any age and church appropriate deals that you would like to do-
nate as prizes, please drop them off in the church office. Thank
you.
Please remember that your child(ren) can start Sunday School at
any time! Guests are always welcome to attend. Any questions,
please contact the church office or Laura Ruotsala at
youthed@peacelc.org.
Dear Pastor Stuart and members of Peace,

Thank You to all those individuals that are Thrivent
members directing their Thrivent Choice Dollars to
Peace Lutheran Church throughout the year.
Thank You to all members that are donating to the Building Fund throughout the
year: We are now down to a balance of $489,915.94. We are currently paying the
mortgage payment of $12,435.00 per month. Any amount helps toward that payment.
You make my job easier by having the funds available to make the payments.
Thank You,

The Annual Meeting is Sunday, Jan. 28th.
Copies of the Annual Report will be available on
Sunday, Jan. 14th in the Gathering Area.
Katie’s Circle
On the agenda in January is considering whether we want to change to a different
magazine for bible study or change the meeting date to the 3rd or 4th Tuesday of each
month, since we havent been getting the magazine before the meetings on the 2nd
Tuesdays of the month.
Our bible study this month starts a new theme: scripture and nature. Jesus regularly
invokes nature in his teaching, drawing us into deeper relationship with the created
world. In the next 4 studies, we will explore how biblical stories of the natural world
help us to grow our love for and commitment to God, other people, and our beloved
earth.
Weather: Powerful force for change
We cant control the weather, but we can learn from it. Storms, rain, drought and wind
shape the lives of human and non-human beings, both in scripture and today. As we
face catastrophic storms and the weird weather of climate change, biblical stories of
extraordinary weather convict and humble us. They show us how to live faithfully, mov-
ing us to act even when we feel powerless.
Barb Brumm and Fay Jensen will lead the study. All women are welcome to join us.
Each month is a separate study. Previous attendance is not required. Copies of the
Gather magazine are available in the church office.
Katies Circle meeting/Bible study: Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at 1:00pm.

Need a sewing project? There are tote & walker bags
kits in the donut room ready for assembling. Its a great
project for a beginner sewer, too. The tote bags help out
local children and youths at non-profit organizations.
And the walker bags kits make a useful bag that
attaches to a walker, it can be given to someone you
love or a Peace Member that would deeply appreciate
it.
Please bring finish products back to the table once com-
pleted. Thank you so much for your time and love.

PATHWAYS TO PEACE
In the short time we have had our PTP Ministry, we have formed new
friendships and relationships with our Parishioners. We are even able
to give Holy Communion if requested. Our ministry loves sharing a
little of Peace sunshine with our Parishioners. We are nding they are
doing the same for us. A true blessing for all!
If you have a friend or family member you think would enjoy a home visit, phone call, or
would like to receive Communion at home by one of our Pathways to Peace volunteers,
there are referral forms in the church oce. You can get in touch with Jill Miller (920-621-
4778) or Sue Hancock (920-7375143) if you have any questions or concerns.
The next meeting for Pathways to Peace will be Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 5:30pm.
