THE PROGRAM
The South Florida Baseball program played its first season in 1966 and
will enter its 60th campaign in 2025. Mitch Hannahs was named South
Florida’s eighth head coach in program history on June 8, 2024 after
compiling 355 wins over 11 seasons at Indiana State. The 2023 ABCA
NCAA DI Midwest Region Coach of the Year guided the Sycamores to six
conference titles and five NCAA Regionals.
• The Bulls have made 14 NCAA Tournament appearances and earned
their first-ever Super Regional berth in 2021. The Bulls have won five
conference tournament titles (3 Sun Belt, 1 Metro and 1 American) and
six regular season championships (3 Sun Belt, 2 Metro and 1 C-USA).
• USF baseball players have been recognized with All-America honors
12 times and 19 Bulls have earned Freshman All-America accolades.
USF has had 131 MLB Draft Picks. Former 2018 first-round draft pick,
Shane McClanahan, is a two-time MLB All-Star and was the AL starting
pitcher in the 2022 ASG.
BRAUN STRONG:
Ole Miss transfer Corey Braun has delivered solid
performances in his debut for the Bulls
• In the season-opener vs. Iowa (2/14), he went 5.0
innings giving up two runs and five hits while striking
out six and facing 22 batters. He left with USF trailing
2-1 in an eventual 5-4 Bulls win.
• In a 9-1 series opening victory at Georgia Southern
(2.21), Braun went 6.0 innings giving up one run on four
hits and logging seven strikeouts, including five in a row.
• In 13-3 series opening victory vs. UCF (2.28), Braun
posted a season-high 6.1 innings. He tallied a career-
high nine strikeouts. He retired the first nine batters in
order and did not give up a hit until one out in the fourth.
• In the series opener against Villanova (3.7), he pitched
a solid 7.0 innings, holding the Wildcats to one run
on six hits. He struck out eight batters, one shy of his
season high.
• He brings a 2.59 ERA into the weekend and a team
leading 30 strikeouts (38th in NCAA) and 24.1 innings
pitched.
GREICO GOES LONG:
Florida A&M transfer first basemen Sebastian Greico has
provide power for the Bulls.
• He tied a PROGRAM RECORD set in 2018 by Joe
Genord with home runs in four straight games at Georgia
Southern (2/23), vs. FIU (2/25), and vs. UCF (2/28 & 3/1).
• He has an RBI in 7 of his last 9 games, producing five
multiple RBI games in that span and a total of 18 over
those 9 games.
• He leads the team and ranks 49th in the NCAA in home
runs (6) and 99th in RBI (20).
• He leads the team with 9 RBI, a .773 slugging
percentage, is second with 17 total bases and third with
a .318 average and .448 on base percentage.
STEAL AWAY:
Under Mitch Hannahs the Bulls have come out running.
After logging five stolen bases against Maryland, USF
has 32 swipes on the year. USF has been caught eight
times for a 80% success rate. Three players have at
least five swipes, led by outfielder Ryan Pruitt (8-7),
Bradke Lohry (6-8), and Marcus Brodil (6-8).
• The Bulls ranked 51st in total stolen bases (86) last
year and 47th with 1.56 per game.
WALK THIS WAY:
USF racked up 23 walks against Maryland including 16
on Sunday, the most since May 9, 2017 when Florida
walked the Bulls 17 times. The Bulls now rank 78th
nationally in bases on balls led by Bradke Lohry who
ranks fifth in the AAC with 17 free passes on the year.
• The Bulls ranked 154th in bases on balls last season.
BULLS TAKE OPENING SERIES
South Florida opened it’s 60th season and first under
head coach Mitch Hannahs with a 5-4 victory over Iowa
in front of 1,434 fans at the USF Baseball Stadium. The
Bulls logged a 9-5 win on Sunday to claim the series.
• USF won just two non-conference home series in the
2024 season.
• Ryan Pruitt’s 7th inning, two-out grand slam fueled the
Bulls’ 5-4 opening night victory over Iowa.
• Iowa won Game 2, 8-2, recording 13 strikeouts and
out-hitting the Bulls 11 to 3.
• USF posted 13 hits and three home runs to take a 9-5
win in the series finale.
BULLS TAKE SECOND SERIES AT
GEORGIA SOUTHERN
South Florida won its first non-conference road series
since 2002, scoring 30 runs and collecting 35 hits while
winning games on Friday and Saturday and suffering an
11-inning loss Sunday in which they led 8-6 in the 11th.
• Corey Braun gave the Bulls a strong start on Friday,
completing six innings and giving up one run on four
hits. The Bulls scored nine runs as four bulls recorded
a multiple-hit game, including Carter Murphy going
4-for-5.
• USF posted 13 runs on 13 hits in a 13-5 win on
Saturday as Bradke Lohry and Sebastian Greico each
drove in three runs.
• A controversial call on a GSU bunt play that scored
a run to tie the game in the 11th eventually led to a
Sunday loss.
• The 7-8-9 hitters in the line-up were potent in the last
two games, posting 13 hits and 11 RBI.
NEW LOOK BULLS
The Bulls welcomed 24 new players for the 2025
campaign and replaced 33 lost from 2024 roster.
• The opening day starting lineup featured 7 newcomers
- 6 position players and new comer Corey Braun pitching.
• Rafael Betancourt, Marcus Brodil & Jackson Mayo
lead group of five returning position players.
PRUITT GETS TO IT:
Yavapai College transfer outfielder Ryan Pruitt got his
Bulls career off to a strong start in the opening series.
• Earned AAC Honor Roll leading Bulls hitters in the
Iowa series going 5-for-9 (.556) with two home runs and
five RBI. He was 2-for-3 on Sunday with a home run and
two bases on balls.
• In Game 1, his two-out, seventh inning grand slam
brought the Bulls from down 2-1 to an eventual 5-4
victory.
• He leads the Bulls with 5 doubles and is second with
11 RBI and a .611 slugging percentage. He is also tied
for the team lead with five stolen bases.

CONFERENCE SERIES SINCE 2002
• USF road series win at Georgia Southern (2.21-23)
marked just the seventh road non-conference series win
in program history and the first since winning 2-of-3 at
Miami in 2002.

BULLS’ SWEEP SEASON SERIES WITH FGCU
South Florida snapped a five-game losing streak against the FGCU Eagles on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Bulls earned
their third win against the Eagles in Tampa.
• On Tuesday, Matt Brown earned his first start of the season. He pitched 5.0 innings, holding the Eagles to three hits and
earned his first win.
• Marcus Brodil had a four-hit outing on Wednesday, a season-high for the Florida native. He added two RBI to his stat line.
It was his first multi-RBI game of the season and the fifth of his career.
