K-STATE INVITATIONAL BLUE HEN INVITATIONAL OLD DOMINION INVITATIONAL DELAWARE INVITATIONAL
The University of Delaware volleyball team
enters the final weekend of the regular
season still in contention for a Conference
USA Tournament berth. UD needs to go 2-0
against Sam Houston, while Missouri State
must go 0-2 against Middle Tennessee.
Delaware can only be the eight seed if it
were to clinch a postseason spot, and would
play the No. 1 seed in next week’s CUSA
Tournament. The conference tournament will
be held in Miami, Fla., and hosted by FIU.
Asia Murray is looking to wrap up a historic
defensive season. She is currently averaging
1.27 blocks per set, second best in CUSA and
49th best in the country. Her 1.27 blocks per
set would be the second best all-time in a
single-season in Delaware history - behind
only Karen Kunselman’s 1.33 in 1996.
Following the conclusion of Saturday’s match,
Delaware will honor its seniors - Raina
Hughes, Cadence Nguyen, Dylan Norris, and
Sila Ozyurek.

a new era
After a nearly 18-month wait, the new
era is finally here and the University of
Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens are officially
full members of Conference USA as of
July 1, 2025. Fourteen of UD’s 22 varsity
programs will be housed in CUSA, with
seven others joining as affiliate members
in the Atlantic Sun (womens lacrosse,
mens and womens swimming & diving),
Atlantic 10 (mens lacrosse), Mid-American
Conference (rowing), The Summit League
(mens soccer), and Atlantic Hockey
America (ice hockey). Field hockey will play
an independent schedule this fall as the
department continues to work diligently to
finalize a new conference for the reigning
CAA champions.
An athletic department built on history and
tradition, Delaware brings an abundance
of success to CUSA having won 10 national
championships, 172 team conference titles,
282 individual conference crowns, 342
major conference awards, 2,655 all-league
selections, and 543 all-americans.
UD student-athletes complement their
athletic success with strong academic
performances. During the 2024-25
academic year, the Blue Hens compiled a
cumulative 3.41 grade-point average—the
highest in department history, excluding
academic terms impacted by COVID-19.
This marked the 11th-consecutive year and
the 23rd-straight semester in which UD
student-athletes have posted a 3.00 GPA
or better.
The move will push the Delaware brand
across the nation, spanning from the
northeast down into Florida, and west as
far as New Mexico. However, the reach
won’t stop there. At least five football
games will hit the national scene on CBS
Sports Network/ESPN family of networks,
including a non-conference tilt on FOX
against Colorado. Mens and womens
basketball will also have the chance to
play nationally televised games as part of
CUSAs media rights agreement with CBS
Sports Network and ESPN.
Speaking of reach, Delaware’s initial
announcements about joining Conference
USA reached over two billion people
according to social media analytics. Put
that into perspective - just over one million
people live in the state of Delaware. That
means these announcements reached over
2,000 Delawares.
Conference USA is an NCAA Division I
conference championing success in college
athletics through dedicated leadership,
dynamic partnership, and diverse
membership. Founded in 1995 and based in
Dallas, CUSA is home to nine schools: FIU,
Jacksonville State, Liberty, Louisiana Tech,
Middle Tennessee, New Mexico State, Sam
Houston, UTEP, and WKU. Kennesaw State
joins the league in 2024 and Delaware
begins competition in 2025.
Adding the University of Delaware is a
tremendous opportunity for Conference
USA as we strategically position ourselves
for continued success,” Conference USA
Commissioner Judy MacLeod said. “We
are excited to add the state’s flagship
university with its rich history in athletics
and academics and look forward to our
partnership with President Dennis Assanis,
Director of Athletics Chrissi Rawak, and
their leadership group.

big shoes to fill
The Blue Hens will look to fill big
shoes this season after losing
five key members from the 2024
team. Savannah Seemans, Kirah
Johnson, Lily Rogers, Hannah
Wright, Emily Chrysolgelos, and
Mackenzie Sobczyk were all
lost to graduation, and former
all-rookie selection Gha’Naye
Whitfield-Moss transferred to
Mississippi State.
Seemans played in every set
of every match during her five-
year career, and is one of four
players in program history with at
least 200 career aces and eighth
player with at least 1,000 kills and
1,000 digs.
Johnson is a two-time all-
conference selection and ranks in
the top five in program history in
blocks per set, total blocks, and
hitting percentage.
Rogers was the CAA Setter of
the Year in 2024 and became the
first CAA player to earn Offensive
Player of the Week twice as a
setter in the same season since
2011.
Wright played in 94 matches
and 334 sets for her career,
contributing defensively and on
the service line.
championship standards
Delaware became just the ninth
program in CAA history to reach
at least three consecutive CAA
Championship matches, joining
Towson (2019-23), James Madison
(2016-19, 1985-87), Charleston
(2013-15), Delaware (2010-12),
George Mason (2000-03, 1992-
97), and William & Mary (1984-91).
By defeating Towson in 2023 for
the title, UD upended the four-
time defending champions and
became the first team ever to win
two games against Towson in
SECU Arena in the same season.
newcomers
Transfers India Gantt (Dayton),
Sila Ozyurek (UMKC), and Fiona
Rigby (Syracuse) joined the
Blue Hens during the offseason.
Freshman Jayda Gray, Aubrey
Lyssy, and Thalia Yancey round
out the roster.
key returners
Delaware’s key returners from last
season include Anna Logan Gillens,
Cadence Nguyen, Raina Hughes,
and Taylor Holly.
Gillens was a second-team all
conference selection in 2024, the
only sophomore on a CAA all
conference team, and first Delaware
player in their true sophomore
season or earlier to earn all-
conference honors since Spring 2021,
and first in a full season since 2017.
Nguyen played in all 111 sets last
season and averaged 3.66, including
a career-high tying 24 in the CAA
Championship Match against
Charleston.
Hughes, in her second year as a Blue
Hen after three years at Syracuse,
hit .293 in 26 matches last season
and .321 in conference play. She
tied a career high with 15 kills while
hitting .448 in the semifinals of a
CAA Tournament win against third
seeded Towson.
Holly played in every match as a
freshman and had 1.80 digs per set.
Also returning is Dylan Norris, Asia
Murray, Kennedi Inman, Morgan
Campbell, Kristyn Membreno, and
Jayda Redd.
Murray had a strong start to her
freshman season in 2023, being
named CAA Co-Rookie of the Week
and CAA Defensive Player of the
Week in the first two weeks of her
playing career.

new setter
Inman is expected to take over
as Delaware’s primary setter. The
Blue Hens have a long history of
successful setters, most recently
Rogers’ CAA Setter of the Year
season in 2024. Ezgi Basaranlar
(2019-23) finished her career with
3,946 assists and was a three-
time all-conference selection and
Delaware earned four CAA Setter
of the Year honors over a five
year span from 2007-11 - Megan
Welch (2007), Jess Chason (2009
2010), and Renee Tomko (2011).
new coaches
Following the addition of alumna
Addie Rivera to the coaching
staff before the 2024 season,
Lambert hired Lenika Vazquez as
associate head coach and Hunter
Ray as assistant coach during this
offseason.
Vazquez, who previously coached
at Northeastern and Canisius,
competed against the Blue Hens
during both schools’ time in the
CAA. Ray comes to Delaware
after stops at Southern Illinois, Ole
Miss, Texas State, and Northern
Iowa.
texas ties
UD has four players from
Texas, including three from San
Antonio (India Gantt, Aubrey
Lyssy, Thalia Yancey). Kennedi
Inman comes from Aubrey,
Texas. Delaware also previously
rostered Eileen Gex (Houston)
and Madelyn Grunza (Southlake)
as key members of its 2023
championship team.
Originally from Texas, Kimberly
Lambert played collegiately
at Texas A&M-Kingsville and
also began her coaching career
at Rice. She also coached at
Caldwell High School, for current
CUSA rival UTEP (2004 -05), and
was the head coach of Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi (2006-08).
power conference history
Delaware has played 31 programs
when they were in a power
conference. This season, the
Blue Hens have Kansas State on
the schedule (August 31) before
hosting Virginia Tech (Sept. 5).
This will be the first time a team
from a power conference comes
to Newark since West Virginia
played at the Bob Carpenter
Center twice in the COVID-
impacted Spring 2021 season.
Delaware split the two games
with the Mountaineers, winning
the second match 3-2. Current
assistant coach Addie Rivera
had 13 kills and hit .313 with eight
blocks in the win.
All-time, Delaware has played
115 matches against teams when
they were in a power conference
and own 33 wins - 12 coming

turkish connection
Turkey native Sila Ozyurek joins
the Blue Hens after stops at UMKC
and Miami Dade CC. Delaware
has a history of Turkish players
joining the program, as former
setter Ezgi Basaranlar (2019-23)
hailed from Istanbul. Basaranlar
was a CAA All-Rookie selection
and three-time All-CAA selection.
ireland national team
Incoming transfer Fiona Rigby
spent her summer playing for
Ireland’s Senior Womens National
Team. During the Small Countries
Association (SCA) Tournament, she
was named to the Super7 Team
after leading Ireland to a bronze
medal. She was one of two
players from Ireland named to the
All-Tournament team.
three-set matches
In three-set matches under
Kimberly Lambert entering
2025, Delaware is 32-7. UD has
only been swept by Towson in
2022 (three times), Villanova and
Missouri in 2023, San Jose State in
2024, and Kansas State in 2025.
peaking late
UD has regularly become a
tougher opponent the later the
season gets. In 2022, UD won
five of its final six games of the
season after starting the year
1-4. In 2023, the Delaware ripped
off 15-straight wins to end the
season before bowing out in the
NCAA Tournament to 8th-seeded
Missouri. UD stumbled out of the
gate in 2024 at 2-3 and suffered
a weekend sweep at William &
Mary in October. They then won
11 of their final 12 matches of the
season.
Overall, Delaware is 18-2 in
November under Lambert, with
the only two losses coming in the
CAA Championship match.
Since 2023, UD is 15-2 in the
month of October, and a
combined 28-4 in October and
November.
winning in conference play
Delaware has gone 40-12 in
conference games over Kimberly
Lambert’s first three seasons,
including 30-6 combined in
2023-24. UD won 18 consecutive
matches against CAA opponents
from Oct. 1, 2023-Sept. 28, 2024. It
was the longest streak by a CAA
team since Towson’s 21-match
win streak from 2019-Spring 2021.
reverse sweeps
The Blue Hens have a knack for
coming back after losing the first
two sets to win in five. They have
done so seven times over the last
three seasons. Delaware recorded
reverse sweep victories on Oct.
2, 2022 against Charleston, Nov.
17, 2022 against Charleston, Oct.
21, 2023 against Hofstra, Oct. 28,
2023 against UNCW, Oct. 1, 2023

Kimberly Lambert began her tenure as
head coach of the University of Delaware
volleyball program on February 21, 2022.
Lambert recently completed her eighth
season with the Blue Hens, her third
season as head coach.
In 2024, Delaware claimed the CAA
Regular Season Championship with a 15-3
record - the fifth regular-season title in
program history - and achieved a 20-7
overall record, despite graduating six
players from the 2023 CAA Tournament
Championship team. Lambert recorded
her 50th career win as Delaware’s head
coach, faster than anyone in program
history. She needed just 70 games,
surpassing Delaware Hall of Famer
Barbara Viera who reached 50 wins in 76
games. UD set a program record for most
consecutive set victories with 18 from
Nov. 2-16, and tied its conference wins
program record at 15. Delaware became
just the ninth team in CAA history to
reach at least three-consecutive CAA
Championship matches.
Lambert’s second year was one of the
most successful seasons in Blue Hens
history. Delaware made the NCAA
Tournament after winning its fifth CAA
Conference Tournament Championship
by defeating Towson on its home
court. Along the way, Delaware won 15
consecutive matches, the longest win
streak in program history. Delaware
also won a program-record 11 road
matches. Nationally, Delaware finished
22nd in aces per set (1.86), 37th in hitting
percentage (.257), and 20th in winning
percentage (.828). Savannah Seemans
finished nationally fifth in aces per set
(0.58) and total aces (64) and Lani Mason
finished 27th in aces per set (0.46) and
total aces (51).
In her first year as head coach, Lambert’s
team had a 17-11 record and went 10-6
in conference play. UD put together a
nine-match winning streak from Sept.
9 through Oct. 3, winning 27-of-31 sets
played, including 12-straight. The Blue
Hens advanced to its first CAA title
match since 2016 during the conference
tournament. Lani Mason was named
AVCA All-American Honorable Mention,
AVCA East All-Region, ECAC Offensive
Player of the Year, CAA Player of the
Year, CAA First-Team All-Conference,
CAA and All-Tournament selection
As associate head coach, Lambert has
helped coach the Blue Hens to two (CAA)
Tournament appearances, including a
semifinal showing in 2021.
Prior to Delaware, Lambert served as
the assistant coach at North Carolina
State and one season as the director of
operations from 2013-16. North Carolina
State won 20 matches in her final fall,
posted a school-record 13 Atlantic Coast
Conference victories.
Lambert spent four seasons as the top
assistant coach at Marshall from 2009-
12. While with the Herd, helped guide
Marshall to a 22-9 record in 2009.
Lambert served three seasons as the
head coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
from 2006-08, where she was one of the
youngest head coaches in Division I. She
coached the 2006 Southland Conference
Newcomer of the Year in Christie Feliz,
who ended her career as the school’s
leader in kills per set.
Lambert also served as the top assistant
at UTEP from 2004-05, where she
was the Miners’ recruiting coordinator,
defensive coordinator and outside
hitters coach. She was the head coach
at Caldwell (Texas) High School in 2003,
where she led the Lady Hornets to the
3A State semifinals. She was named the
District 18-3A Coach of the Year and the
Brazos Valley Area Coach of the Year.
She began her coaching career in 2002
as an assistant coach at Rice.
A native of Sugar Land, Texas, Lambert
played collegiately at Texas A&M-
Kingsville and earned a bachelor’s degree
in kinesiology in 2001. She was inducted
into the university’s athletics hall of fame
in 2022. As a student-athlete, she earned

LENIKA VAZQUEZ
Vazquez was hired as
associate head coach
prior to the 2025
season. She comes
to Delaware after
spending five seasons
as the head coach
at Northeastern,
where she won 55
games and led the
program to four
CAA Tournament
appearances. Under
Vazquez’s guidance, Northeastern had
eight all-conference honorees - three
first-team and five second-team
selections - as well as four all-rookie
team selections. Notably, she coached
Samantha Shupe to a CAA Setter of the
Year honor in the spring of 2021. In 2022,
Northeastern won 10 conference games
for the first time since 2017. The Huskies
were also strong academically, having
received the AVCA Team Academic
Award.
Before her tenure at Northeastern,
Vazquez was the head coach of Canisius
for four seasons. Vazquez orchestrated an
impressive rebuild that saw the Golden
Griffins win at least 15 games in back-to-
back seasons in 2018 and 2019, the first
time Canisius did so since 2011 and 2012,
and led the Golden Griffins to consecutive
second-place finishes in the MAAC. She
mentored the 2018 MAAC Libero of the
Year and was able to coach and develop
six MAAC All-Rookie Team selections
in three years. Canisius also had three
First-Team All MAAC selections and five
second-team selections.
Prior to Canisius, Vazquez was an
assistant coach at Butler from 2012-
15 during one of the programs most
successful periods. She helped the
Bulldogs to consecutive 20-win seasons,
had an All-American Honorable Mention,
three All-East Region selections, and four
all-conference honors.
Vazquez also has spent time as a head
coach at Chicago State and was an
assistant coach at South Suburban
College and Southern Illinois. Additionally,
she co-founded Illiana Explosive Volleyball
Club. As a player at Southern Illinois, she
was a four-year defensive specialist and
helped the Salukis to a 19-win season and
a third-place finish in the Missouri Valley
Conference in 1998.
ADDIE RIVERA
Rivera joined the
Delawares volleyball
staff as an assistant
coach on July 1, 2024.
Rivera’s first year on
staff as a Blue Hen
was highly successful,
as Delaware was
the CAA Conference
Co-Regular Season
Champion as it
finished with a record
of 20-7 and 15-3 in league play. The team
set numerous records and earned several
accolades, including most consecutive set
victories with 18 from Nov. 2-16 and tied
its conference wins program record at 15.
Its .741 winning percentage this season
ranked as the sixth-best in program
history.
Rivera returns to Delaware after spending
two seasons at Ole Miss, where she was
the Rebels’ Tech Coordinator in 2024
and a volunteer assistant in 2023. She
was responsible for advanced statistics
and film for the program and worked
directly with the coaching staff in putting
together scouting reports and detailed
analytics in match. She also assisted the
coaching staff in shifting the program
culture.
As a student-athlete for the Blue Hens,
Rivera appeared in 33 matches and
105 sets, totalling 192 career kills and 98
total blocks, leading the team in blocks
in back-to-back seasons. As a redshirt-
freshman in 2019, she appeared in 27
matches and 85 sets, and her season was
highlighted with a 17-kill match against
Hofstra in a first-round win of the CAA
Tournament. She also had a season-high
nine blocks at Incarnate Word on Sept.
13. During the 2020-21 season, she ranked
in the top-10 in the CAA in blocks per set,
posting a season-best eight against West
Virginia on March 29, to go along with a
season-high 13 kills.
A graduate of Emmaus High School in
Macungie, Pa., Rivera totaled nearly 800
kills and 250 blocks in her four years as
a varsity starter and was a multiple-time
all-conference, all-state, and all-district
selection.
HUNTER RAY
Ray joined Delaware
as assistant coach on
July 1, 2025.
Ray comes to
Delaware after
spending one season
at Southern Illinois,
where he assisted in
training the Cougars’
middle blockers
and setters. During
his time at SIUE, MB
Nicole Medlin earned second-team all-
conference honors and finished first in
the Ohio Valley in blocks per set. He also
helped organize recruiting operations
for prospective student-athletes, helped
coaches navigate the transfer portal, and
led film sessions for positional groups.
Prior to SIUE, Ray was a graduate
assistant at Ole Miss, where he
coordinated drill preparation while
assisting in recruiting and scouting duties.
Ray also possesses experience coaching
at the club level, serving as an assistant
coach with United VBA in New Braunfels,
Texas. He coordinated the development
of the U-15 National Level club with the
planning of practice and organized and
scheduled team tournaments.
Ray has also made stops at Texas State
and Northern Iowa. He was a practice
player for both programs and played for
both school’s club teams. At Texas State,
he was his squad’s team captain and led
the team in kills and aces. He was also
team captain at Northern Iowa. He holds
a degree in public health from Texas
State and in higher education from Ole
Miss.
