CONTEXT:
As Skyla mentions, the opposite of conflict isn’t lack of conflict, or even peace, but it is
incredibly empowering and builds confidence, clear communication and interpersonal
skills, and increases awareness within us. Even if this is uncomfortable to move through.
In order to find conflict resolution, she offers us some useful and practical skills to
support us to get to the outcome that is both best suited for the situation as a whole,
and one that can provoke and provide greater learning for us as an individual.
These are really useful to you whether you feel that you handle conflict already pretty
well, or whether you tend to get stuck, frustrated, or simply try to avoid it at all costs!
Being able to have healthy conflict resolution skills at work is such a highly beneficial
thing to obtain, and can lead to greater respect from your peers and boss, deeper
awareness and understanding about ourselves, as well as more opportunities to
accelerate up the career ladder successfully. There is no way we can reach the heights
we would like from our career without having the right tools and attitude to navigate
challenging conversations and situations at work.
Conflict will arise in the workplace, that is guaranteed!
So this worksheet is designed to help you to explore the following skills:
COMMUNICATION
RISK
VULNERABILIT Y
TRANSPARENCY
HONEST Y
CREATIVIT Y
CO-CREATION
NOT TAKING IT P ERSONALLY

Tips: Be honest - use this as an opportunity to deepen your awareness
and understanding.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Step 1:
Let’s start with some reflection on your current skill level when navigating conflict.
What is your go to reaction/ response when it arises? Take a look at the following
statements and consider which one(s) feel most resonant
to you:
I avoid it.
I become silent.
I shrink down or away.
I say yes or no just to fit in and not rock the boat
I become defensive or confrontational
I take it personally
I want to ‘win’ and be right
I listen to the other persons point of view with care
I have expectations, assumptions or projected outcomes that I want to happen
Take some time to note down your default position without judgement, and expand
upon your answer. Remember there is no right or wrong. We are learning here.

something different that you could approach and apply to find a healthy and

Which of these may be the most likely and suitable option for all involved?
END RESULT:

conflict resolution at work. Hopefully you will find these rewarding both in and out of
