Centre College: Alumna returns for poetry reading
DANVILLE, KYThe English program will sponsor a poetry reading by Centre alumna Lynnell
Edwards on February 16 at 8 p. m. in Centre’s Norton Center for the Arts board room.
Edwards' first collection of poetry, The Farmer's Daughter, was RELEASED in September 2003.
Her poems have been published in numerous literary journals and anthologies including
Hubbub, Sam Hamill's Poets Against the War anthology, and Raising Our Voices: An Anthology
of Oregon Poets Against the War. Edwards is also a regular reviewer for the literary journal
Rain Taxi.
Milton Reigelman, J. Rice Cowan Professor of English at Centre, notes that "as a Centre student
and student assistant, Lynnell was imaginative, serious and just eccentric enough to be
interesting. She looked at things through her own, fresh eyes.”
Reigelman further reflects, "Her poetrylike her student papersis both fresh and intelligent.”
Edwards is an associate professor of English and Director of the Writing Center and the Writing
Across the Curriculum programs at Concordia University. She serves as a faculty editor for
Concordia's literary magazine, The Promethean.
In 1986, Edwards received a bachelor's degree at Centre College. Later she earned M. A. and
Ph.D. degrees at the University of Louisville. Edwards' professional interests include rhetoric,
women's literature and poetry.
