
t. j. reed is the Taylor Professor Emeritus of German at Oxford University, a fellow
of the British Academy and the Göttingen Academy of Sciences, and president of
the English Goethe Society. His many books include studies of Goethe, Schiller, and
Thomas Mann, as well as critical editions of Mann’s early fiction.
